The festive season is synonymous with extravagant spending, with one certainty: financial problems come January.

Many consumers regularly find themselves in this predicament; with this in mind, Nedbank is committed to exploring innovative ways to encourage all South Africans to build financial fitness to achieve their goals and aspirations.

The newly launched MyFinancialLife™, an online personal financial management tool, is designed to empower consumers to manage their spend through sound planning and budgeting, enabling them to save for their short- and long-term goals.

This month, Nedbank has been rallying consumers to make a pledge toward building their financial fitness for next year and beyond.

The initiative saw Nedbank hosting activations at selected vida e caffé, Kauai, Seattle Coffee and Planet Fitness outlets nationwide where consumers had the opportunity to make a pledge toward their personal financial goals.

Joining the activation at vida e caffé Rosebank were Sizwe Dhlomo, Zahara, Sylvester Falata and Gert-Johan Coetzee, among top Mzansi celebrities who also made their pledges.

Coffee lovers were treated to a free cup of coffee or a smoothie as they pledged. The public was also invited to join in the pledging through national radio and social networks.

“As a bank that cares, we understand that building financial fitness and instilling a savings culture is vital to nurturing a vibrant society and economy. Through engaging with our clients, we have come to understand that consumers are looking for easy and convenient ways to manage finances. We believe making a pledge is a personal commitment that should motivate every individual in the country to make financial fitness their New Year resolution,” said Anton de Wet, managing executive of Client Engagement.

“MyFinancialLife™ is an easy-to-use tool that enables clients to customise their dashboard in line with their individual financial interests and requirements. It provides a consolidated view of the users’ entire financial position online and in one place – at no cost to Nedbank and non-Nedbank clients. In essence, MyFinancialLife™ empowers you to plan and budget effectively; more importantly, it identifies areas of unnecessary spending, giving you more bank for your buck,” concludes De Wet.

Nedbank calls upon all in South Africa to make financial fitness their New Year's resolution for 2013 and enjoy their festive season responsibly.
