For the first time in the show’s 20-year history, China is the official partner of the Southern African International Trade Exhibition (SAITEX).

The announcement was made by Zhigang Lei, First Secretary (economic and commercial office) at the Chinese Embassy.

Lei said the partnership offers exciting opportunities for both Chinese and local companies.

More than 400 Chinese exhibitors are expected to be at the exhibition with wide-ranging products in 3 500 different categories.

“The Chinese government places great value on enhancing business relations with the Brics countries,” said Lei.

“South Africa is China’s largest export destination for the African continent.

"This encourages Chinese businesses to focus on developing countries and new emerging markets,” said he.

Chinese companies are no strangers to these exhibitions yet as Lei adds, SAITEX attracts the most in Africa.

“SAITEX offers incredibly professional services and facilities.

"It is also the only multi-sectoral event of its kind in Africa.

"Even old exhibitors enjoy coming back to SAITEX time and time again to strengthen business relationships with their partners.

"For new exhibitors it is the opportunity to showcase their products into an emerging market and develop new business avenues.

“We have a very strong relationship with SAITEX,” says Lei.

“Last year, the ministry of commerce in China set up a mini brand show in SAITEX, which proved to be a great success.

"This confirmed our desire to be involved in 2013 and now we are having a China pavilion at SAITEX,” says he.

John Thomson, managing director of Exhibition Management Services, organisers of SAITEX, echoes Lei’s sentiments.

“To encourage this interest from China, we have business matchmaking.

"The business matchmaking is an online service that allows visitors and exhibitors to arrange meetings before hand.

"This is an opportunity for vast networking, potential business deals and a way to create new avenues of income,” says Lei.

Visitors can expect to see a vast array of products ranging from tools, hardware, furniture, lighting, electronic systems and much much more.

SAITEX takes place at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, Johannesburg from 30 June till 2 July.

Entrance to the expo is free.
