Sage, the market leader for integrated accounting, payroll and payment systems, has partnered with Google to create a software prototype that will allow Small & Medium Businesses to create, update and manage Google Sheets reports with data taken directly from Sage One Accounting, using Sage Intelligence Reporting Cloud.

This means that customers who favour Google’s application ecosystem will soon be able to use the Google Sheets spreadsheet application to pull data directly into Google Sheets from Sage products. This gives Sage customers more choice of an office productivity platform.

Sage customers, the Small & Medium Business owners powering economies the world over, will have the freedom to analyse business critical information wherever they have access to a web browser or a smartphone, enabling them to make faster and better business decisions.

The prototype – the latest project in a two-year partnership between Sage and Google – was developed using Google’s latest innovation, the Google Sheets API. To build the prototype, developers from Sage Intelligence in South Africa collaborated with colleagues from Sage One in the United Kingdom and Google in North America, taking it from idea to proof of concept in less than two months.

“To compete in today’s fast-paced landscape, Small & Medium Businesses need the ability to access critical information in seconds, rather than the hours or even days it can take without an integrated reporting solution. They need integrated systems that are simple to use and available anytime, anywhere. That is exactly what we’re delivering with this proof of concept,” says Charles Teversham, Managing Director of Sage Intelligence. “This innovation takes data from Sage solutions and exports it straight into Google Sheets to create a dynamically updated spreadsheet complete with charts and analysis – all with a single click.”

Adds Anton van Heerden, Executive Vice-President and Managing Director, Sage South & Southern Africa: “It is an honour to work with such world renowned brands and collaborate in this joint partnership. The plan is to release the solution to our Sage customers as a rich integration with Google Sheets in the near future. In a time of seismic technological change and digital invention, we cherish partnerships like this and the bigger goal is to make a difference in the lives of businesses around the world.”
