The government, through the Department of Health and Social Development, has recognised that employment is a problem in South Africa. They are at the forefront of combating unemployment by using the Lulaway online recruitment platform, which provides corporates with direct access to entry level and semi-skilled workers.

In his State of the Nation address, President Jacob Zuma asked labour, business and society to discuss youth employment incentives. Following the successful conclusion of discussions about the youth employment strategy, the Youth Employment Accord was captured during February 2013. The public launch of the Accord was signed by President Zuma on 18 April 2013 at 11:00 at the Hector Pieterson Memorial, in Orlando, Soweto.

The Minister of Economic Development personally invited business partners to attend and the accord was co-signed by the social partners.

“It is an honour to be invited to this prestigious event,” says Errol Freeman, MD of Lulaway, “and a privilege to be able to invite the corporate companies that utilise our services. Between us and Godisang, we are taking 60 of the youths that have been employed with us that manage the process to the signing and they are amongst the brightest minds in South Africa.”

“The opening of the first centre in Klipspruit (Soweto) was a watershed moment last year, and there are now 14 Government sponsored Lulaway recruitment centres open in South Africa with six more earmarked to be opened."

More than 600 people over the last six months have been gainfully employed. "Although this is not the total sum of people employed through our system, the 600 can be attributed to the Government directly,” comments Errol.
