One of the biggest challenges facing the African continent in terms of economic stability are cross-border trade related issues. It has been stated that by 2017, defragmentation of borders will allow for regional trade and an economic boost however, governments and legislative bodies need to work together to ensure the success of such a venture.

Furthering that, the article will take a look at the benefits that will arise from this legislation. The Free Trade Area will according to sources allow for job creation, poverty alleviation and economic dynamism on the African continent. The article will explore the idea of exporting professional services as opposed to exporting our natural mineral resources.

In Africa, women and youth are most affected, we look at how easier cross border issues can empower women on the continent, who thus far have been disenfranchised from providing economically for their families and communities.
